For anyone who has wondered, "So what is this Druidawn thing, anyway?"
Druidawn is a lot of things. It's a series of anthologies written by and for children and teens. It's an opportunity for young writers and artists to have their work published and get paid. It's a role-playing game used by language arts and creative writing teachers to motivate kids and get them excited about writing. It's a group of writing clubs in Colorado and online dedicated to helping young authors develop and hone their skills in a comfortable setting, in a group of like-minded peers with similar interests. It's an interactive website, a safe environment where kids interested in science fiction and fantasy can hang out, chat, play games, keep their own journals, and have a good time. Maybe, someday (hey, we can dream!) it'll even be a movie or a television series.
Most of all, Druidawn is a world, a place that is constantly evolving, being developed, changing--and anyone can contribute, can help this world grow. The only limits are those of your own imagination.
Are you obsessed with fantasy? Read about the quest of two Elven Shadow Knights, the elite guardians of the Dissenter City, on a quest to find the special Shadow Blades destined only for them in "Shadow of a Knight". Read about "The Pirate Queen", a Water Elemental and former royalty who has lost her land and everything she holds dear, and will stop at nothing to take it back.
Or are you a science fiction fan? Read about how the human colonists crash-landed on Druidawn and founded their underground city, Haven, in a desperate attempt to survive in "Technicality"...and read about the fiery young girl, Blaze, who simply could not bear to hide underground in Haven any longer, and who would embark on a quest and eventually become a queen in "From Haven to Heaven". Or read about the dark secrets of Haven in the haunting tale of a criminal on trial for murder in "Blank File: E72".
Or are you just interested in zany, crazy humor? Beautiful fantasy art by talented young artists? We have that, too.
Are you an author or artist under age 21 who's interested in helping develop the world of Druidawn? Download the first volume of Druidawn free and purchase Druidawn Volume II in our online store! Keep up-to-date on Druidawn canon by reading the Druidawn Appendix and the Druidawn.org World Development Forum. Post your art in our Druidawn Art Gallery and be featured on the site! Contribute your Druidawn Story so that other Druidawn fans can read it on the website, and you'll be considered for publication in future books! Participate in writing and art contests on the website, with a chance to win fun prizes!
If you're older, you can still be a part of Druidawn! We're working on a number of secondary Druidawn projects now, including "Druidawn Unleashed", a version of Druidawn for a more mature audience with more sophisticated and literary content; "The Age of Archeron", a dark vision of the distant future of Druidawn; and we're even putting together ideas for a possible movie script further down the road.
Are you an educator interested in using Druidawn as part of your classroom curriculum? Check out Creative Writing Solutions for information on the Legend of Druidawn cirriculum and articles on teaching creative writing to kids with learning disabilities.
