This is a dream I had one night. I made into a very short story... I hardly ever have good dreams and this one was sweet. Enjoy at your own risk!
~~~~~~~~~~
Running. The air blew through my hair as I ran. I ran through the field and to the garden, stopping to smell the honeysuckle vines that had climbed their way up the picket fence. It's peeling paint was familiar, making me smile. Home. The scent of early fall was in the air and yet the leaves had not yet turned the fiery colors they would. The sky was a bright blue with little wispy clouds scattered about it. The sunshine was warm on my face, tickling my skin. I laughed.
"Sarah!"
Somebody called my name.
"Sarah! Come and get ready. You have things to do! Chores to get done!"
I laughed, a wind-chime sound.
"I know! I'll be right there
Running again. My bare feet slapped against the stone pathway leading to the cottage that I called home. The trees seemed to laugh happily as their leaves rustled in the slight breeze. I ran up to the open door, the cat peeking down at me from his perch on the roof. His eyes twinkled with some hidden mischief.
I walked in. The comforting smell of freshly baked bread greeted me, along with the voice again.
"There you are, Sarah! Now. you must prepare yourself for when he gets here! Any minute now..." Nanny scolded.
"I love you, too," I replied. She smiled at me, her eyes glowing with amusement.
I quickly pulled a comb through my hair, washed my face, and ran back outside.
Running. I went as fast as I could, grinning from ear to ear. I almost flew to the field, just in time to see him change from a bird to something a bit more like me. Like an elf. I sprinted, almost tackling him as he held his strong arms out to me. We embraced like old friends, although we were more than that.
I nuzzled him and whispered in his ear.
"I love you"
